100 Good Wishes Quilt

The tradition
To welcome and celebrate a new life, it is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei: a 100 Good-Wishes Quilt. The custom is to invite family and friends to contribute a square of fabric and a wish/prayer for the baby. Most of the square is sewn into the quilt, while a smaller piece goes into a scrapbook with the wish for the child. The quilt contains the love, prayers and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a square of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.

We want you, our family and friends, to be a part of this tradition with us. Please contribute to the Bai Jia Bei for our little Anna Ward.

What to send
(1) One (or as many as you want) 7″x7″ square (or larger) of washable 100% cotton fabric. It can be new or “used and meaningful” fabric. You do not need to quilt or even sew anything on this piece of fabric…all that ‘work’ will be done once the fabric has been received and assembled into our quilt.

(2) A 5”x7” (or smaller) card with a wish/prayer dedicated to Anna Ward. Please include a scrap of your fabric glued to the card. Your wish can be simple or elaborate, handwritten or typed. Your wish-card can be simple or colorfully decorated with stickers and photographs… or whatever else you like. Please remember to sign your wish.

Please send your squares to us by July 1st, 2008. That way we have time to make the quilt before our life gets crazy!! Thanks you all…. Love from us to you.
